This recent CD recording has an interesting collection of bird and insect songs for those who find it hard to access and identify these sounds. These are supplemented by Richard Nunns’s use of traditional ways to mimic the sounds.

This CD introduces some new sounds and adds the voice of Aroha Yates-Smith. Its theme is similar to this book in that it maps the creation story through the world of sound. The accompanying DVD is an essential complement to this book for readers who wish to become players: it shows Hirini and Richard playing many of the instruments and gives further insight into the taonga and the process of creating music.

These are complemented by imitations of the huia’s song and supporting songs by Rangitaane o Wairarapa. All proceeds go towards the restoration of Mount Bruce.
